2002
|
2002 meant a busy year for Cliff, it was the Queen's Golden Jubilee year and there was to be a concert in the grounds of Buckingham Palace. The Wanted tour was still ongoing and UK box offices were inundated with fans needs for seats - unfortunately for many they were disappointed as more often than not seats were sold out within days of going on sale. We all saw fans queuing on the TV for tickets - I for one didn't manage to get a seat although I had at one stage 3 telephones ringing the box office numbers and even tried internet booking too all to no avail. More TV appearances and radio interviews were scheduled for the spring to coincide with the next single Let Me Be The One. One of the highlights of the year was a TV show - a Des O'Connor Special and part of this was filmed at Cliff's Portuguese vineyard and of course helping in the launch of Cliff's wine Vida Nova. Des predicted that the wine would be a huge success and when it eventually went on sale it proved Des right, 2002 being a good vintage year. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee concert was memorable as Cliff sang two songs - one with S Club 7 - and appeared in the finale line-up alongside Paul McCartney and Rod Stewart. Cliff also visited his new home in Barbados on a number of occasions! September brought about a visit to La Manga in Spain for a fund-raising event in aid of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. Later it was back to rehearsals for the Wanted tour which began in Belfast in mid-October and continued through the UK for several weeks. In mid-December, after touring in Europe, Cliff paused for a break. Another Tennis Classic saw 10,000 people at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena, and then it was back to Barbados to recuperate before the longest leg of the tour - Australia. New Zealand and the Far East.
